September

Cooler weather begins to creep in at this time of year, but there is still a flourish of later blooms and insects on the Spetchells.

Common Toadflax, Linaria vulgaris.  The closed underlip requires strong insects such as bees and bumblebees to enable pollination.

Robin's Pincushion or Rose Bedeguar Gall, Diplolepis rosae, found on wild roses. The galls are formed by the bedeguar gall wasp.

A late Bog Hoverfly, Sericomyia silentis, female on Common Knapweed, Centaurea nigra.
